JAPANESE HORNBEAM (carpinus japonica)---outdoor, One of the first trees to bud in the spring, it has ornamental hanging fruit and light colored bark. The alternate oval leaves are double toothed, corrugated and do not form branches. The autumn leaves are clear yellow and suddenly drop. Fruit pods, tinged in red, develop in spring and persist through autumn, turning light brown into winter.
