Native of Mexico, it is a deciduous succulent with small pinnate leaves that have a strong herbal odor when crushed. The yellow or white small blooms have striking scents in mid spring to late summer. Seeds appear as a green pea. The stout trunk and peeling papery bark are appealing for bonsai.
